DEEPINGS LEISURE CENTRE
apologise to anyone who was disrupted by the temporary closure of Deepings
Leisure Centre earlier this week. Due
to the rainfall on Tuesday evening, we were forced to cancel a number of
classes and facilities at the leisure centre after rainwater leaked through the
roof and caused localised flooding in the car park and the centre. While the situation has been quickly contained,
health and safety remains our highest priority. After reviewing the situation,
we have decided to temporarily close the Leisure Centre while the condition of
the building is assessed and reviewed.
Following the really positive news confirming that the next stage of reopening we thought it was important to clarify what steps we will be taking at LeisureSK and how the leisure centres will be different. Whilst we would like to fully reopen all of our facilities as quickly as possible and return to pre-Covid levels of activity, unfortunately this cannot happen immediately for various reasons. We will be following the government’s advice to remain cautious and protect our customers and team members.
In terms of our next steps, these are detailed below and all take effect from 19th July unless otherwise stated:
Whilst face coverings will no longer be mandatory within our centres, we would encourage customers to continue wearing them in high use areas when not exercising. Our Perspex screens at reception will also remain for the short-term.
We have reviewed our one-way systems carefully. At some centres these have been well received and have significantly helped with the flow of customers around our buildings and cleanliness. For these reasons, at some centres and for some specific activities our one-way systems will remain in place. Their continued effectiveness will be monitored and reviewed closely over coming weeks. Please be informed by local signage when you attend your LeisureSK centre.
The gym will remain bookable each hour online or on our mobile app. At most centres, we will be maintaining the current level of gym equipment to give adequate space for users to continue to exercise safely and because feedback from customers about the new layouts has been overwhelmingly positive. Should we start to see attendance increase and more demands placed on the current levels of equipment, we will of course add additional equipment to avoid excessive waiting times. We would still respectfully request that customers clean equipment before and after use. The numerous sanitiser stations will remain in place and fully stocked for this purpose.
Group Exercise Classes
At some centres, group exercise classes will be returning to studios where space is felt to be sufficient. At others we will be continuing to use larger areas such as sports halls. You may also find a hybrid approach initially, with some classes returning to studios whilst other larger classes are kept in the sports halls. Our group exercise programme is constantly being reviewed and changes to class type and location will be ongoing during the summer months.
The removal of social distancing and associated Swim England guidance allows us to open up additional swim school places. We currently have large waiting lists for swim school and will be looking to contact everyone on these lists over the coming weeks to enrol as many children into lessons as possible.
All of our sessions will continue to be bookable in advance online or through our mobile app. The available spaces will increase from 19th July as we are allowed to increase the capacity in the swimming pools and in the changing rooms. Additional family splash sessions will be included in the timetable for the summer months and the leisure pools at Grantham Meres Leisure Centre will be reopening from 1st August.
Changing rooms will be fully open and available shortly after 19th July. This will include the use of lockers and showers. We will also be reopening the saunas in the coming weeks and these will be bookable in advance just like our other activities.
Finally, all of our centres will remain cashless. Payment options include advanced payment online or card payments within the centres. There are no plans currently to return to cash payments being accepted.
